Well Hello There, A Mini Race Recap & Weekend Scenes
Well hello there! Long time, no chat. Last week started off with a bang but things quickly turned sour when sickness finally hit (after being healthy allll winter long!).
On Monday I got in an easy morning run with my training partner AND a short evening run! It was 48* and sunny when I got off work so I just HAD to get out there for 3ish miles!
And then… I woke up Tuesday morning sick as a dog! No running happened Tuesday or Wednesday. I stayed home from work and slept the days away – literally! I kept things easy Thursday and Friday but was still so tired that no blogging was going to happen.
Since I was feeling better my coach and I decided that I should stick with my plan to run the 5K on Saturday but that I would do it at an easier pace with an additional fartlek workout afterwards. So Friday after work I headed straight to pick up my bib.
Things were looking good for an early pre-race bedtime until Finn decided it would be fun to run away. Henri strapped on some snowshoes and chased him through the woods for a good 30 minutes. I’m telling you, that dog is crazy!
As for the race itself I won’t do a full recap because it was pretty low-key and I have no pictures because I went all by myself .Saturday I woke up, ate my typical oatmeal and banana and drove myself to the race (Henri was sick too this week and Saturday morning was cold and rainy so I told him to stay home and get some extra sleep).
I ran the course as a warm-up, did some stretching, drills and strides and then headed to the starting line. This was a very small, local 5K so there weren’t very many runners. They started us with an air horn and we were off. I led the way for the first mile or so and then two guys blew past me. They were cruising so I just stayed in my groove and ran in no man’s land the rest of the way.
The course was one big loop with the second mile almost all up a slight incline and rolling hills the third mile. I ran nice and consistent although not as fast as I know I could have run if not sick the whole week leading up to it. 18:05 was my official time and I was 3rd overall, 1st woman.
I jogged for 5 minutes easy and changed into some warmer clothes before hitting the fartlek portion of the day. I fit in 7x 1 min hard/1 min easy and a 5 minute cool-down before I hit my 9 mile limit coach had given me for the day. Overall, it was a good race/workout even if it was pretty uneventful.
Other scenes from our weekend included…
