The ONLY banana bread recipe you’ll ever need!
What’s a girl to do on a cloudy, chilly day off from work? Well, there’s a lot of cuddles that happen, especially when your puppy isn’t feeling good.
And when there are seven over-ripe bananas in your fruit bowl you bake copious amounts of chocolate chip banana bread/muffins!
Whenever I make banana bread I always use my great-grandma’s recipe and no matter how many other banana bread recipes I read I will never make anything other than hers. I swear, she perfected banana bread ages ago and there is no need to change anything! (added bonus – there is a surprisingly small amount of butter for such an old recipe!)
Because I love you guys and want you to experience the genius of my great-grandma I’ll share the recipe with you so you can make it at home. You’re welcome! 😉
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 3 large bananas, overripe (the browner and mushier the better!)
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk, sour (if you’re milk isn’t sour mix 1/2 cup milk with 1-2 tsps of white vinegar… trust me!)
- Optional: 1 cup chocolate chips OR 1 cup chopped walnuts
- Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs and bananas.
- In a separate bowl, sift dry ingredients together.
- Alternate adding a little flour, a little milk to butter mixture until all well combined.
- Stir in nuts or chocolate chips and pour into a greased loaf pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. (if making muffins bake for 25-30 minutes)
Nuts or chocolate chips in your banana bread?
BOTH!
