Our Weekend in San Diego + Training Summary 3/12-18/18
An alternate title for this blog post could be pictures of Liv eating, because those are the only pictures I seem to have from the past few days haha…
We are back to our regularly scheduled Monday after a quick weekend trip down to San Diego for the Hot Chocolate 15K/5K race. We love visiting San Diego and while our mini-getaway was so much fun we definitely need to go for more than 1 night next time. We headed down on Saturday early afternoon, after Henri and his dad spent the morning working on Liv’s bathroom. They are making some great progress and I can’t wait until it’s done and we can check one more thing off the “to-do” list for the house.
Since they were busy working I took Liv along with me for my 4 mile shake out run.
We got to our hotel around 3, checked in and headed over to the expo (which was just a few blocks away) to pick up my bib and my Sweet Valley Organics t-shirt to wear for the race. Liv got to drink some hot chocolate and enjoy a chocolate dipped graham cracker which she was a big fan of.
After the quick stop at the expo we headed back to our room to relax and watch some college basketball before heading to The Blind Burro for dinner. Not your typical pre-race dinner but since this was a for-fun race I risked it so we could eat some tasty Mexican food. We hadn’t really taken into account that it was St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday but luckily there was no wait at the restaurant and we were in and out, and back to our hotel before the sunset and the parties really started. haha
Sunday morning was my race (full recap to come) and afterwards we celebrated by going out to brunch with some of our friends from college. One of our favorite parts about visiting San Diego is getting to hang out with them – they are so much fun AND they always take us to the best restaurants. We went to Provisional Kitchen, Cafe & Mercantile which was so beautiful and the food was delicious!
Before starting the drive home we made a quick stop at the San Diego Zoo to walk around for an hour or so and see some of the animals that we missed when we went back in January. Liv really enjoyed most of the monkeys but was afraid of the big orangutan, the tiger and the hippos – all of which I thought were going to be a big hit haha. When there was an animal that she didn’t like or was a little bit afraid of she would wave at them, turn around and say “bye”, haha. I think Liv’s favorite thing about this zoo trip was her first taste of a churro!
Overall, it was a very fun, family weekend full of lots of tasty treats 🙂
