Olympic Trial Highlights
Boy, its been awhile since we talked about running here. To be fair – I’m not doing anything exciting on the running front. BUT there is something pretty exciting happening in the running world right now… the Olympic Trials!
I’ve been following the trials religiously this year and there’s been a lot of craziness and excitement so far – especially in the women’s distance events. I thought that I’d share some highlights so we could all get a little dose of running on this thing I call a running blog! 😉
The women’s 10,000m went pretty much as predicted with Molly Huddle taking control from the start and running a solid race for 1st place. My favorite thing about the race though was Emily Infield’s second place finish. After an injury ridden winter/spring it’s awesome to see her performing at a high level again!
Alysia Montano broke my heart when she fell in the 800m finals! I love this running mama so much and seeing her fall and miss out on making the Olympic team was the saddest part of the trials so far. She is a true clean sport hero and I really wanted to see her succeed!
But in the same race I went crazy over Kate Grace’s victory! I love seeing Oiselle athletes kicking butt! There were even 3 Oiselle ladies in the steeplechase final and they placed 4th, 7th and 8th – so cool!
Emma Coburn TOTALLY crushed it in the steeplechase final! AND won her 5th US Championship in that event in row. It totally blows my mind that she runs that event nearly a minute and half faster than my PR!
Sarah Brown – who just gave birth to her first daughter 4 months ago (!!!!) competed in the 1500m! She didn’t make it to the next round but she had a great race and as a soon-to-be-mommy myself it was awesome to see her out there!
Still to come are the 1500m and 5000m finals! I can’t wait!
Have you been watching the trials this year? What have been some of your favorite moments? Least favorites?
