Building Casa Floris: The Before Pictures
Happy Friday friends! Can you believe that it is December 15th?? With everything that I had going on this month (CIM the first weekend of December and the coaches’ convention in Phoenix I’ve been at all week) the Christmas season has been flying by! I have a lot of Christmas to-dos to get done this weekend but we’re also planning to squeeze in some fun Christmas things as well.
Before I dive into today’s post I wanted to let you know that I’m today’s guest on one of my favorite podcasts, “I’ll Have Another Podcast with Lindsey Hein”! We talk all things CIM, the progression of my marathon times and figuring out future running plans when you also want to have more kids. Lindsey was so fun to chat with and I’d love for you to check it out – you can find the episode here.
And one last housekeeping thing – I’m really motivated to revive this blog in 2018 and I want to bring you the kind of content you want. It would be a major help to me if you would take 30 seconds to a minute to complete my blog survey [click here] so I can start planning some fun and exciting things for the new year! One of the things I’ve learned from the survey responses I’ve already received is that everyone seems to miss the kinds of posts that offered a look into our everyday life outside of running. This inspired today’s post and the new, non-running series that it kicks off.
As you may know, Henri and I purchased our first home back in May. It was a MAJOR fixer upper and we, along with the help of his parents, have been doing a lot of the renovations ourselves. That means that the last 7 months of our life have been consumed with designing, planning and working on project after project. We are still nowhere near being finished but it’s been a mostly fun process to work on transforming the space into our dream house. Since so much of our time and energy at the moment is going into the house I thought that it would be fun to share our process and progress along the way so over the next few months/year I’ll be sharing regular updates on “Building Casa Floris”.
Today I’m going to start at the beginning and share the before pictures. Henri took these pictures on the day that we were handed the key and looking back I’m reminded of how far we have come in the renovation process. We have since demo’d the entire house! The previous owners had smoked in the house for nearly 20 years and had a bunch of dogs and cats so in our minds every HAD to go – we ripped out nearly everything and started from scratch… floors – gone. cabinets – gone. toilets – gone. bathtubs, sinks, everything – gone.
As you’ll get a sense for from the pictures the scope of the project was/is really, really big! We definitely took on a lot for our first house but we know that it’ll pay off in the end and with every project that we complete we fall more and more in love with our house!

In the last 7 months we’ve made a lot of progress on the house and the color scheme is a lot more toned down, ha. Update post on where we are now will be coming soon. 🙂
Have you ever done a home renovation project? I know we’re already 7 months in, but what are your tips?
