Gender Myths & Your Gender Guesses!

Happy Monday Everyone! Is anyone planning on taking advantage Yogurtland’s free froyo for National Froyo Day today?? Unfortunately, the hours of free froyo are right during my test later so I’m going to have to miss out. 🙁

Speaking of my test, I’ve been studying like a madwomen all day which is why I’m coming at cha a little later than usual.

Instead of doing our usual 16 Week update today I have something even more exciting! This weekend I surprised Henri by making an ultrasound appointment during our usual FaceTime call and we found out if we’re having a boy or a girl!!!!

Before I spill the beans to you all I thought it would be fun to explore some of the old wives tales and myths that are said to predict gender and hear what you all think Baby Floris is!

Myth #1: If you are carrying low it’s a boy, if you’re carrying high it’s a girl.

My bump is still pretty small but I’m definitely carrying low – the majority of bump is below my belly button so this myth would say boy. 

Myth #2: Girls steal their moms’ beauty so you get more acne, boy moms have more of the “glow”.

Girl all the way on this one – my pimple situation has been out of control since I got pregnant…. and I was really looking forward to that pregnancy glow! ha

Myth #4: Salty and sour cravings signal a boy, if you crave sweets it’s a girl.

My cravings have all been for things like burgers, pizza, grilled cheese, chips & salsa and pretzels. I’ve ever felt the urge to buy sour gummy worms the other day and I don’t even like sour gummy worms. Boy!

Myth #3: Heart rate over 140 means girl, below 140 means boy.

Baby Floris has had a high heart rate every time we’ve heard it – 169, 150, 155. So heart rate theory would say girl.

Myth #5: According to the Chinese birth calendar your age at conception and the month that you conceive can determine if you are having a boy or girl.

This one can be a little confusing because it uses the lunar calendar. When I did the calculation using my Western age and the month of November I got boy but every calculator that converts to the lunar calendar has said girl!

Myth #6: If you have really bad morning sickness that means you’re having a girl, if you sail through the first trimester you’re having a boy. 

While I did have really bad morning sickness it really only lasted for 3 days and then the rest of my first trimester I either felt a little nauseated all day or totally fine. So this one is inconclusive.
